Yarn Nerds is a family-owned and operated business based in Detroit. We started in 2022, dyeing yarn in our kitchen and growing the business one skein at a time. Since then, we’ve been part of several pop-up and shop incubators throughout 2023 and 2024, sharing our love of color and fiber with the community. We hand-dye all our yarn in small batches and are currently working toward opening our own dedicated dye studio and retail space. Thanks for supporting our journey — we’re glad you’re here.

How we got started...
Yarn Nerds began as a Saturday craft club founded by Lisa Borum and her three daughters. One weekend, as they bonded over their shared love for crafts, they decided to create a club to explore their creativity further. They named the club Yarn Nerds, reflecting their passion for yarn, knitting and crocheting.
Meet The Borums
Lisa Borum
I'm Lisa Borum, knitwear designer and owner of Yarn Nerds LLC. With over 22 years of knitting and crocheting experience, my journey began when a teacher introduced me to the craft. Beyond knitting, I'm a self-taught artisan skilled in sewing, crocheting, and hand-dyeing yarns - which led to creating Yarn Nerds. Through life's challenges, including bed rest during my six pregnancies, crafting has been my creative outlet and source of joy.
Aria Borum
Aria Borum, is a talented young crafter who plays an integral role at Yarn Nerds. With a passion for crochet and knitting, she brings creativity and enthusiasm to the craft.
Anaiah Borum
Anaiah Borum is a budding craft enthusiast and a key member of Yarn Nerds. She discovered her love for knitting and crocheting at a young age, inspired by her family's craft club and her mother, Lisa Borum, a knitwear designer.
Bella Borum
Bella Borum, is the youngest girl of the Borum family and an emerging crafter at Yarn Nerds. Bella learned how to knit at a young age, inspired by her family's love for crafting. Bella Merino Yarn is named after her.
