About
Yarn Nerds is a Detroit-based, family-owned and operated business founded by Lisa Borum, a knitwear designer, mother of six, and lifelong lover of all things yarn. What began as a humble Saturday craft club between Lisa and her three daughters has blossomed into a vibrant brand that celebrates creativity, connection, and community through yarn.
One weekend, while bonding over their shared love for knitting and crocheting, Lisa and her daughters decided to start a club to spend more intentional time making things together. They called it “Yarn Nerds”—a name that perfectly captured their joyful obsession with yarn and all the possibilities it holds. What started as a way to spend quality time quickly turned into a deeper passion, and soon, Yarn Nerds grew beyond the walls of their home.
Today, Yarn Nerds offers hand-dyed yarns, thoughtfully designed patterns, and creative workshops to inspire makers of all levels. Each skein is dyed with care and creativity right in Detroit, Michigan, using colorways inspired by nature, emotion, and imagination. The business reflects the heart of Lisa’s original mission: to bring people together, spark joy through crafting, and celebrate the art of slow, intentional making.
Whether you're picking up your first pair of needles or you're an experienced fiber artist, Yarn Nerds is here to support your journey—with color, creativity, and a whole lot of love.
